Sunday 8th July is an opportunity for you to come and see TWO BRAND NEW PLAYS performed in the amazing environment of Barnabas Arts House over an afternoon.
Following the success of ‘No Human Is Illegal’ and their acclaimed performance in The Houses of Parliament, Ignite Theatre Company formed this year and is made up of performing arts students from Leyton Sixth Form College, all of whom are full time acting students. Ignite Theatre Company aim to create work that speaks about issues that are socially, culturally and politically relevant. Members of the theatre company live and work in ethnically diverse, creative, and culturally rich neighbourhoods. Katy as a writer and director finds these cultural melting pots exciting breeding grounds for making plays and feed directly into her creative practice.
AGENDER is a play that aims to explore what gender means to young people. This play looks at cultural assertions of gender, how world leaders deal with gender roles, and how the company came to explore this concept through sharing personal stories, through play, through improvisation and through physical theatre. The play integrates multi media and music woven in a highly expressive style.
MIND THE GAP is a piece about social inequality in London. The gap between the rich and the poor continues to grow in London and across the country, with the rise of capitalism we see more families living in poverty, using food banks and struggling to make ends meet. Ignite Theatre Company aims to call out to audiences everywhere, “Is it fair?”
Agender will be performed at 2pm – tickets £6 (or £10 for both shows)
Mind the Gap will be performed at 4pm – tickets £6 (or £10 for both shows)
Each play is just under an hour. Refreshments will be available between shows.
