THIS IS ME / happy in my skin
An exhibition of beautiful and empowering images of real women, naked, free and fully self-expressed.
Barnabas Arts House in Newport is delighted to host the launch of the THIS IS ME / happy in my skin touring exhibition, (created by Hazel Anderson and Leah Crossley) between 11 – 31 July 2015.
This exhibition of images by visual artist, Leah Crossley, is an exhilarating, joyous celebration of the female form, wondrous individualities, community and sisterhood. It presents women of all ages and relationships (grandmothers, mothers, sisters, friends, partners) who took to the water for the inaugural THIS IS ME / happy in my skin all-female skinny-dip last September, rising to the challenge of ‘baring all’ and embracing the concept of positive body-activism.
The exhibition Open Day – Saturday 11 July 2015 – at Barnabas Arts House, will also engage with visitors and participants via two life-drawing classes, a belly-dancing class, talks and performances. It will provide a space for listening and space to be heard.
Times of workshops are:
Life Drawing class* 2.00pm & 3:30pm £5
Belly Dancing class* 5.00pm £5
Wine and cake 6:30pm
*places are limited so call to book in advance – 01633 673739 or 01633 264581

“Taking part in the Happy In My Skin Dip has changed my quality of life. I was in a hate/hate relationship with my body. After the dip I looked at my naked body in the mirror and didn’t hate it. This has NEVER happened before. Leah’s images take me back to the day and that feeling of being 10ft tall and I feel very proud indeed!” Ellen Groves, Cardiff Dipper 2014
“I took part to support my daughter and the project. I hadn’t thought it might actually be fun and make a difference to me. It was an incredible experience. Fun, bonding, affirming and beautiful.” Jean Anderson, Cardiff Dipper 2014
